I tend to agree with this statement as the more prepared you are, the less surprises will be. Fortune makes a person to feel free and to have status in society in order to be much prepared to face anything that might happen in any circumstances.
However, some might say happiness is not about money but I believe that money plays a capital role in the lives of human beings. Everything in current days is about money as some people might say money talks. If you want a relationship, you must have money as you have to spoil your partner; when you wanted to get married, you must have money even from the beginning, actually if you are from African cultures when it comes to lobola; if you want to live a happy life, you must have money; to be respected in the community where you live, you must have status i.e. money; etc.
Money is not everything but without money you cannot be recognised within our societies. Nevertheless, others might say that the true fortune comes from a person’s behaviour as when you have peace of mind, you can deal with any situation whether you have status or not. A man with a good background such as great qualifications can therefore be recognised even by rich people whether he has status or not.

Watch this space
This is about the use of Internet. Internet sometimes called the World Wide Web (www) or just ‘the net’, is a massive network of computers from around the world all connected by cable and satellite. When users are connected to the Internet, they can receive text, images, video and sound on their computers anywhere in the world.
According to Butell; in reality, seeing inappropriate material is not the greatest danger to kids online. The real threat comes from those who would take advantage of kids who naively reveal personal information about themselves, such as their name and address.
Therefore, there are many things on-line that are suitable for children or those are cause for concern. The main dangers to children are that they may access inappropriate information; inadvertently form ‘friendships’ with strangers; be subjected to advertising pressures; risk their personal health through excessive use; and endanger their privacy. Some sites encourage children to join clubs and enter competitions. In so doing, they reveal their name and address and may become the target of unwelcome marketing and other material.
However, what parents can do is to comply with the Young Media suggestions as with other areas of children’s lives, parents have a responsibility to provide guidance and to set clear limits. Conventional is a good fallback position
Conventional is still a good fallback position as the innovation should not replace all successful things. Why the new technology should replace completely the successful existing way of doing things? That’s where there is a direct realism.
However, in order to break barriers in your ideas, you’ll need a new way of perceiving, conceptualising, implementing…things. You cannot limit your ideas with the conventional as to avoid poor performance because the world develops fast and there are always new things which come up every time. Nevertheless, you can come up with new ideas but based on the conventional due to the fact that what you come with should be measured on existing concepts or methodology.

As Public Relations Practitioners, we should know the basis of each and every aspect of human beings and companies’ areas. What is marriage?
Marriage can be defined in a million ways but for me marriage means everything. It is not only the blessing from the priest, our parents, home affairs, etc. but it is a life commitment , which changes a person form the level A to the level Z i.e. you should not get married today and then divorce one day but you have to remain married until death you part.
According to me, marriage is about loving the partner the way you love yourself such as carrying, spoiling, admiring, praising, standing on his/her side and being his/her total support. You cannot stay a moment without telling your partner you love him/her. Marriage is about giving the best of yourself to the person you be living with the rest of your life. Although, you should be different from the beginning as you come from different backgrounds i.e. different families, different educations, different ways of thinking, etc, but once married, you should harmonise everything and forget about you both come from and create your own world with own principles and rules. That’s how I personally see the marriage.

Everything we do comes first from an idea as this is the conceptualisation phase before going to planning, methodology, implementation, evaluation, etc. Depending on an idea, if it is a positive one, then I would disagree with Alain but as from the experience, mostly when there is only one idea, this seems to only be a negative one because a person with positive ideas cannot limit him/herself on one and unique idea.

Cell phone
Cell phone is an important and useful communication tool, which allows people and organizations to be reliable all the times as it is mobile i.e. you can carry it wherever you go. You can purchase from your cell phone, you can make transactions from your cell phone, you can navigate from your cell phone, etc.
However, its use is a whole issue as people do things behind cell phones. People sometimes misuse the cell phones with its recent technology such as Blackberry, a person can seat at home and work from there but for him it’s to be reliable as to reply to emails... actually when he works alone in the office and the boss lives in another region/province.
Some people have developed lies through cell phones. You can call a person, for instance your partner, he/she might be somewhere else, but she can lie to you that she is at home as there is no way to prove the opposite. I remember once I took a bus and a lady who sat next to me received a phone call and obviously from her partner, we were in another destination while she told her partner another one. Everybody in the bus laughed and realised that she was lying.

If I become famous for these fifteen minutes, I would like to realise my dreams. Despite the time, what I could do is to focus and make such opportunity to remain forever. For instance, within fifteen minutes when I would become famous, I would make much money and then save into an investment account in that frame of time. End Violence against Women
Women should be informed about the nature of abusive relationships, safe dating practices, and sexual harassment, sexual assault, and the rights of women since many have been victims in any way, and due to ignorance they cannot report it.
Violence against women is about power and control. Violence against women cuts across race, religion, income, class and culture. Violence against women is deeply embedded in all cultures, so that millions of women consider it a way of life.
However, according to some males, women should be treated as human beings, with dignity, respect and love. It is a shame that men abuse women; men must denounce by all means any violence against any women, and treat women as equal. Real men should not hit women as will gain nothing from it due to the fact that strong men don’t beat women, only cowards do so.
Women reflect our mothers and research has shown that to abuse a woman is to abuse your mother, and the concept of abusing your mother is a terrible one. I am not trying to negatively criticise the statement as the message can only be explained by Frank and to decode someone’s idea, you have really to enter into is understanding. Nevertheless, as from the media, we can constructively criticise such a statement as one of our roles is to educate and inform people.

Refugee Centre in Cape Town
Refugees living in Cape Town have seen the tears of their cries being wrapped as the Department of Home Affairs has moved from Nyanga, where many have been targeted by local residents, to the new office in Maitland.
Foreign nationals living with Asylum, Refugees Status... have encouraged the initiative of the Minister of Home Affairs as she was personally involved in making this dream comes reality. Nevertheless, Mr. Richard Sikakane, the Manager for the Department of Home Affairs Refugee Centre in Cape Town has been congratulated by Refugees for his hard work as well as the hard work of all Home Affairs officials.
In the past months, foreign nationals have faced challenges going to Nyanga as every day one was at least robbed if not stabbed or killed; some people were even scared to go and renew their expired papers, others who took the risks to go were sometimes victims of crimes such as robbery, murder, hijacking, etc.
With the new office, there is a secured parking lot for as many people driving as possible, which was not the case in Nyanga. Self-esteem
People are very proud of themselves as they value their personalities, reputations, etc, which leads them to self-esteem. They believe more on themselves despite their weaknesses and they rarely recognise them.
Is self-esteem a quality or a defect? This is real dilemma due to the fact that for some people, other people’s self-esteem should be seen as a defect while they cannot judge themselves and for other people, self-esteem is the way of standing strong and not letting people to judge you negatively.
Most human beings are the same as no one easily accepts his/her weaknesses and threats. Being negatively judged by others is seems like a failure for human beings even though their conscience know that it’s true. That’s the reason why they say it easy to judge others than to be judged; it’s because of self-esteem as you will not want people saying bad things about you or about your family, etc.
From my point of view, self-esteem could be better for those who really feel that they want it and not need it as from there, they will do things right as to position themselves within the society and that will contribute to the development of mentalities, not only fir such people but for the all society as the true development starts with the change and/or development in people’s mentalities.

What motivates me...?
Actually, I am a smart person as I can adapt easily in any situation that my life could face. Nevertheless, motivations also impact on my opinions as being a human being. I am always motivated by positive thoughts and opinions as well as positive acts.
Every human being is motivated by good things such as good remuneration in the context of work, awareness of his/her effort when serving a certain community, academic recognition when studying hard i.e. a hardworking student who distinguishes himself amongst others, should pass with a distinction in that particular subject or graduate with a cum laude.
Personally, what motivates me is hard work, energy, enthusiasm, professionalism, so many more. I am a very ambitious person and once strengths are being motivated or supported, I’d do perform in the way to benefit not only myself, but also the organisation where I work, the community where I live as well as the country where I reside.
However, my weaknesses are also part of what motivates me as being challenged, I try the best of myself to prove what I am able to as I do not believe in failure in my life because I am of winner’s race. Finally, whatsoever is the situation, prayer always motivates me as to stand victorious.
Every human being is motivated by good things such as good remuneration in the context of work, awareness of his/her effort when serving a certain community, academic recognition when studying hard i.e. a hardworking student who distinguishes himself amongst others, should pass with a distinction in that particular subject or graduate with a cum laude.
Personally, what motivates me is hard work, energy, enthusiasm, professionalism, so many more. I am a very ambitious person and once strengths are being motivated or supported, I’d do perform in the way to benefit not only myself, but also the organisation where I work, the community where I live as well as the country where I reside.
However, my weaknesses are also part of what motivates me as being challenged, I try the best of myself to prove what I am able to as I do not believe in failure in my life because I am of winner’s race. Finally, whatsoever is the situation, prayer always motivates me as to stand victorious.
Why taking someone’s life?
When it comes of killing, assaulting, murdering... these kinds of word always let me think that life means nothing for some people. They do not care about taking someone’s life as just as they were playing a game or as they were in an action or horror movie.
People are fear to walk or to live their lives peacefully as crime has occupied a place of choice in our society. On a daily basis, crime is reported on air and some happening in townships are not sometimes even reported and people now think it’s not important to report anymore as it became usual.
However, from a religious view point, it should be fair to take lives of others without having any reproach or feeling guilty. People if really did something as ending by taking someone’s life, should confess if that was accidently and should in reality remain punished as to give examples to the remaining ones who do commit crimes. But what happens, everyone at the court pleads not guilty even when his/her conscience know that he/she is lying.

Personal autonomy – how far does it extend?
Personal autonomy should be defined first as to give readers a certain idea of what it really is in order to better apply it since many tempt to ignore it or just do not know what it is at all. In ethics, autonomy refers to a person's capacity for self-determination in the context of moral choices; therefore, the core idea of personal autonomy is to have personal rule of the self while remaining free from controlling interference by others. The autonomous person acts in accordance with a freely self-chosen and informed plan as the research has shown.
Despite the Section 16(1) of the Constitution of South Africa (part of the Bill of Rights), which states that “Everyone has the right to freedom of expression, which includes – freedom of the press and other media; freedom to receive and impart information and ideas; freedom of artistic creativity; and academic freedom and freedom of scientific research”, but no-one can write (or say) anything at all or anything they want about someone else without possibly infringing a right of that person as the individual (you and me) has certain common law safeguards. Nevertheless, people by ignorance or expressly tempt to extend their personal autonomies over others’ boundaries and overstep the law as some tempt and others do encroach others’ freedom by infringing the law.

For example when you pay your bills is good thing that you do, that’s even why we see it with TV licence as they say paying your TV licence is a good thing to do because they will continue to broadcast and with performance as they have what necessary to improve the quality of the service offered as it’s a win-win relation. Same applies with bills such as electricity, water... bills as they need revenue to rehabilitate power stations, to clean water’s storerooms, etc.

“Bunch of animals” is one comment on CPUT strikes in August. What is yours?
This is a very extremist comment as people should not at the first place be called or considered as animals. Animals do not protest as they do not have a conscience to do so. Only human beings, unless someone comes to oppose my belief, have been given the capacity of thinking when created by God.
Strikes have been existed ages ago and will still exist and only human beings can strike or protest for whatever reason that has to be. Nevertheless, what matters most is the approach in which people do it. Striking by destroying, damaging the institution, that was not nice at all and students went far and even according to me lost the sense of their claim/demand, which I believe was the basis even of such strikes. Damaging the institution when striking, which could involve gangsters, thieves, criminals, etc as in that moment it was difficult to identify who was a registered student and who was not.
The best way to claim your right should not be in violence as violence does not resolve things but only makes them worst. CPUT students should have reason to strike but this could be done through the SRC as by submitting a memo to the management and then could wait and see until next year during the registration period whether the memo was taken into consideration or not.

International students called ATMs
Xenophobia, discrimination, racism … These kinds of intolerances exists in the higher education social scene.
Despite reaching a certain level of education, local students still need to adjust these attitudes towards their international counterparts, particularly those from North Africa.
Many might say that xenophobia doesn’t exist at CPUT but others, mainly international students confirm it exists in the CPUT social scene. But on CPUT campuses South African female students target male international students, whom they call ‘ATMs’. They use them to obtain money while keeping their local boyfriends. “International students, similar to North African foreigners living in South Africa; spoil and provide local ladies with their needs and wants,” it is said.
“I am disappointed to be called an ATM because we do spoil them as a woman deserves to be spoiled by a man. This is normal where we come from; but unfortunately misunderstood by young South African ladies,” said Hugo, a 4th year student from Angola. “Calling foreign students ATM’s is indicative of these ladies’ lack of self respect,” he added.
The Association of International Students (AIS) believes in change of mentality in higher education and calls local students to co-operate with international students for cultural changes and for the improvement of CPUT, Western Cape, South Africa and the African continent by avoiding such practices.

Protests
(Laugh!) Protest against what, against whom and where, when and how to protest?
Everything in South Africa before to be solved, people tend to protest about it in order to bring the authorities forcibly to a table of discussions.
In my own conviction, I do not see the reasons why should people protest to raise their voices as such protests usually end in vandalism; it is really absurd to want something while destroying another one to get what you want so that authorities will have to spend twice by giving protesters what they want and then fixing what have been damaged by the same protesters.
People should know how, when, where... to protest about as most of the time when people protest, once approached by the media, some do not even know to express the reasons of why they protest. I believe that protests should be monitored by leaders who should be aware of the reasons and consequences of such protests.
What we see is totally the useless, people end by damaging, looting, even killing their counterparts just to get what they want and if the victims in their turn want to get back what they have lost, the country’s reserve would be just to repair, satisfy everyone’s needs and wants. We saw in countries like the United States at the time of racial segregation, people ended in sit-in but mostly in quiet way.

This statement tends to be true in the way that a day is always a good day but being a good or bad day, depends on people’s moods for such specific day. The day itself cannot say that “I am a good or bad day”; only people define the nature of the day depending on certain factors such as people’s moods, climate of the day, etc.
Someone can be of good mood when waking up and due to natural inevitable circumstances; his or her day becomes automatically a bad day. For example, one lady wakes up knowing that it’s her birthday and she already planned to make a party later in the evening but when realising that there will be raining the all day, that specific day can become automatically a bad day for her. At the other hand, a person desperate of obtaining a job, being somewhere unhappy in his or her state of mind, suddenly receives a call that he or she has been offered a permanent job in a managerial position; do you know how that day can become a lovely day for such a person?

Feelings come from the inside and behaviour plays the role of reflecting such feelings outside; one’s feelings and behaviour can determine in what mood the person is in that specific moment and thus can also determine the reasons why one’s reaction in a specific situation. Referring to the above, it is simply clear that there is a relationship between feelings and behaviour. However, people tend to misuse their feelings by behaving in bad way such as committing crimes and so on and taking that as excuses before judges in courts or even at families when trying to sort out things or conflicts friendly.
Some might argue against this statement but others would agree with such as statement as behaviour only reflects people’s feelings. It should even be said that behaviour follows feelings and one might say “I feel like doing this or that” and then later you will see such person doing what he or she felt like to do; therefore, his or her behaviour explained/reflected his or her feelings.
Others however would support such statement in the psychological aspect; there might be a relationship between feelings and behaviour due to the fact all are not physical things that one can touch but as they are from the inside and only reflected outside and they should be connected to one’s soul and spirit. Or everything connected to spirit or soul should be in relationship each other. What was positive from him, he practiced hard and then talked too much from his well-doing.

It is a poor idea to lie to yourself
I always say that if you are sure about yourself, you should not worry about the things. If you lie to others, your conscious will tell you that it is a lie and why lying to yourself as long as you know that it is a lie?
From the religion point of view, a real man is measured while facing obstacles and when lying to people, you cannot lie your conscious and the Almighty God who is our Creator cannot be lied as He knows the past, present and the future! Unless that you are not a Christian nor believe in God that you can behave in such a way.
From the scientific point of view, you can lie others but your research shall be expelled once caught in fraud and not able to defend it before the members of the jury. Even in academic context, you can be penalised from copyright or plagiarism. At the end of the day, you will put yourself in a bad position from the idea to lie, which is called a poor idea as your own conscious knowing the status of your situation and even facing the charge, you will not be able to defend yourself before the judge unless that you do not care about your conscious and would not mind to cheat or to be called a criminal because the idea to lie to yourself will lead you to criminality.

That said, life is completely filled of surprises and if you only seat there and wait for others to do everything for you, you should not blame yourself to your destiny as those who wander and one day find themselves in position of controlling the world by not being always lost.
Despite fortune favours prepared mind i.e. more you are prepared, less surprises; those people wandering the future of their lives are not always lost as to some extent they always get the unexpected. We can get the example of Colgate, he wandered and today he is one of the rich people in this planet.

How do you step from the top of 100-foot pole?
This requires a deeper reflexion on how to step from the top of a 100-foot pole; what really happened from one to be at the top and how did he or she have to get there? Somehow there was a ladder, there were steps, or he or she has been dropped there by a helicopter?
From my opinion, taking such a risk would not work for many but there might be people out there who always take chances and always experience life in the way that a normal human being would not. This said, how do you expect someone like me to step from the top of 100-foot pole, even offered millions of dollars, I would not agree to such a proposition because I’d be dead before I get such money and what about my family? Oh, no I would never take such a risk or adventure myself!
There is however an old saying stating that if everyone is from the same thought that means that no one deeply thinks i.e. being realistic, I do not think that this should happen to me as long as I am awake and surely if such thing happens to me, I would conclude that it is only a dream and what the best to do for stepping from the top of 100-ffot pole, it’s just to wake-up and that nightmare will end there. Who says better?

There is however an old saying stating that if everyone is from the same thought that means that no one deeply thinks i.e. being realistic, I do not think that this should happen to me as long as I am awake and surely if such thing happens to me, I would conclude that it is only a dream and what the best to do for stepping from the top of 100-ffot pole, it’s just to wake-up and that nightmare will end there. Who says better?

We are what we do
What we do really reflects who exactly we are. In other words, our impressions indicate the type of people we are. People may or not know you by the means of your background but they can easily recognise who you are by your way of doing things i.e. your behaviour at work or school or church, further that can be anywhere.
Every day people make mistakes, commit crime, fraud, etc ignoring the concept that says even you do things secretly in hidden place, always remember even walls of that specific place can view and testify one day i.e. even doing things in secret with people you trust more, remember that one day, one of them will expose you.
Sociology is a science that I love most and living with people has just maximise my knowledge on people behaviours and that associated with the knowledge acquired in psychology. Human beings tend to quickly forget what they do ignoring that people surrounding them can only make judgement on what they see about such people.
Human beings are recognised and or judged by their behaviour and/or character, which is the factor that represents a person’s personality. That tells exactly who a person is; so we have to always behave in a positive way and good manner in order to also be judged positively otherwise will be judged negatively whatever the effort made to be where we are because our attitude reflects our image.

We are afraid of the wrong things
People these days tend to be afraid of the wrong things due to so many bad things happening daily in people lives and/or surrounding them due to the fact of seeing many bad things. Sometimes the things that could be right seem therefore to be seen as bad and that could be concluded as wrong things.
I remember one day when seat at a friend place and his cousin came along with his family i.e. wife and their eight-year old son while my friend and his wife had their seven-year old daughter. When we seat, the children went to the bedroom to play and later we could hear my friend daughter saying put some saliva so that it could enter. Alarmed without knowing for sure what was going on in the bedroom, both parents of respective children i.e. my friend’s couple and his cousin’s couple ran to the bedroom thinking that children were about having sex and surprisingly they found children were playing with the needle and the daughter want to put the linen and as it could not pass through, she asked her cousin to put some saliva so that it the linen could enter.
Afterwards, the parents laughed to death and I was so shocked by the way people could be afraid of wrong things and since that day, I understood that the fact of always thinking negatively, people are even afraid of the wrong things.

What is the colour of the wind?
Saying that the wind has a colour, many will not agree but that can be understood to some extent in supernatural level of science or at a traditional basis. Any human being could experience a high level thinking as to find the real colour of something because these existing colours have been scientifically in an anthological way agreed, which could also be disagreed currently if one can oppose his/her thought related to that.
I would say that when a blind person looks at the stars, he or she can only see the light of his or her heart; therefore the wind could have a particular colour depending on the conception of one person to another. I would say that the colour of the wind is white or grey and that according to me and another person could say the colour of the wind is silver or third person could say that the colour of the wind is gold.
As human being and from African continent, we basically trust in beliefs and the wind in certain aspects and contexts of life is symbolic to some traditions and cultures and that is materialised by its colour. For instance, when the wind blows in my culture, the position to which the rainbow is positioned in that specific moment, which appearing in various colours, indicates whether is going to rain or not; tough, elders can tell the exact colour appearing most than others and influenced by the wind, and give the exact explanation of what is going to happen.

SA Bands suck?
This statement is quite discriminating as some of SA bands are recognised internationally; I could agree to such a statement when it comes to performance because the infrastructures with SA musicians work with are far low compared to American or European music industries.
Also, should we consider the fact that most bands in South African write songs in national languages even the music is about the sounds, rhythms and combination of both but the texts also matter to international audiences.
I would personally support that the statement which iss boring but when referring to the above elements, it seems quite reasonable that some might say SA bands suck and even more.
From daily experience, South Africans love their music no matter the reasons and if we look at bands such as 340ml, African Jazz Pioneers, Almost Famous, Babu, Bala Brothers, Baoba Three, Mafikizolo, Malaika, Salsa Candela, Springbok Nude Girls and so many more; we can see that South African music industry growing fast but the only problem is that artists and bands are not well managed and most of them are limited in terms of scenic production.
There a few bands that produce live concerts internationally in great venues such as Madision Square in New York, Bercy and Olympia in Paris, and at other international venues. Perhaps in this context, some might say SA Bands suck but except that, SA bands locally or nationally perform well and keep the audiences alive during scenic productions...
In my point of view, it depends on context to say whether SA Bands suck or not. Who says better?
If I were the boss
If I were the boss…
If I were a boss I would be recognized a hard worker deserving to be a boss because to me, to be a boss means a lot; it’s not only a matter of being at the top management and earning more money but what you can deliver matters.
So, If I were a boss, I would make my work or business environment attractive for investments and I would take good care of my employees and of my shareholders because if I could take care of them, the rest will follow.
If I were a boss, I would see myself meeting higher personalities in hyper places for business purposes and I would provide a good income to my staff. I would also create an environment with strong diversity of people i.e. from different backgrounds as that would bring innovation and prosperity.
If I were a boss, obviously, I would earn a huge amount of money and I would support my church activities as I always see myself as an evangelist.
Finally, If I were a boss, I would make my wife the first woman of the city not comparing to the first lady to avoid political attacks and I would keep my wife away from my detractors as they could use her to achieve their mission.

Designer PR
“If you are going nowhere in particular…. any road will take you there” (Lewis Carroll would agree).
I believe it’s time for Public Relations to be taken seriously in a managerial position. Our profession was threatened by lack of creativity and the wow factor as many PR Practioners have been taking someone else’s big idea and diluting it through lack of resources; it’s just time to move from the concept of Business to Informatics and Design as there are more opportunities offered to us to prove the world that we were undermined and there should be innovation, creativity, new ways of working and being acknowledged.
The concept of PR Designer is new but I believe it has existed already only people could not think about it as strategic communication is the key of success to business. However in this standard, Public Relations or Corporate communication should not be regarded as part of marketing and advertising. It’s time that PR Practioners have to be considered as decision makers in management with a lot of creativity and not only people who are out there organizing events or functions and who are seen as subalterns in their way of doing things. This approach of “Design PR” has given us opportunities to be heard through our innovation, creativity, seriousness, and passion.
As “Designer PR” has come to inspire us more, I am very pleased to be one of the pioneers to shift a concept that would be one day be acknowledged internationally and my commitment inspires me with new vision of Public Relations and I believe that the challenge facing this new approach will be manageable as flexibility, innovation, creativity… belong to us. So together, let’s stand and implement “Designer PR” into the real world. Anyway, who says better?
